WASHINGTON -- Brig. Gen. Robert K. Ryan, land component commander, District of Columbia National Guard, participated in a panel discussion during the Cadet Command 2018 Senior Leader Development Conference on Nov. 7, 2018 at Howard University in Washington D.C.
The conference gives senior leaders the opportunity to interact, engage and provide insight to benefit the future Army officers. The conference was live-streamed to all ROTC programs throughout the country and gave cadets the opportunity to ask questions directly to the panel.
Panel speakers consisted of flag officers from various sectors of the Army including Brig. Gen. Ryan from the D.C. National Guard.
“The panel was a great way to showcase the talents and opportunities that the D.C. National Guard has to offer,” Ryan said. “From the highly motivated Soldiers who are the backbone of the organization, to the satisfaction of supporting the local and federal mission, being a leader in this organization is an opportunity of a lifetime to say the least.”
One of the cadets who participated in the panel discussion was David Dichoso, a senior cadet at George Mason University.
“I am more than open to getting feedback and advice to make sure I mold myself into a great and competent leader,” Dichoso said. “I hope to be able to be in their shoes one day.”
Ryan was excited to provide guidance and direction to the cadets, he said.
“Being able to give back and make a difference within my community is something that motivates me to become better each day,” Ryan said. “Serving with the D.C. National Guard has taught me a lot about being an officer and becoming a better leader in general. I can’t wait to see these future officers flourish in their future endeavors.”
