EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska – The death of Capt. John Goeres, a KC-135R Stratotanker pilot assigned to the Alaska Air National Guard’s 168th Air Refueling Squadron, has been ruled an accidental drowning by Air Force officials in Guam. He was found unresponsive near Tumon Bay on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at about 1:30 p.m.

Brig. Gen. Gentry W. Boswell, commander, 36th Wing, Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, contacted Col. Bryan S. White, commander, 168th Wing to communicate the official cause of death.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Captain Goeres’ friends and family,” said Boswell. “We are deeply saddened by losing a member of our Air Force family.”

Goeres joined the 168th in 2012 when he was selected as a pilot with the refueling squadron.
