“After the hurricane hit, it was a struggle for us to even do our job. Command post is the linchpin between the commander and higher headquarters and vice versa. We ended up figuring out that just two people had working phones in the first few days after we were hit. We had to make do with what we had, but we were able to make it happen. Seeing the tops of the trees taken off was a lot to take in. Being a part of the rebuild has been awesome. It feels like you’re a critical piece of getting Tyndall back to where it used to be. I think we’re doing really well so far. We’ve cleaned up a lot of the base and made it accessible to those coming back to salvage whatever is left of their belongings. I think that’s an important first step on the road to recovery.”
