Cherry Point celebrates 243rd Marine Corps birthday

Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point

The Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., local community came together to celebrate the 243rd Marine Corps birthday with a special meal at the mess hall, Nov. 16, 2018.

The MCAS Cherry Point command chaplain, U.S. Navy Lt. Derek Vande Slunt, kicked off the meal with an invocation for the guests.

The menu included shrimp cocktail, French onion soup, grilled steaks, baked lobster tails, baked potatoes, steamed Italian cut green beans, sautéed mushrooms and onions, corn on the cob, fruit salad, dinner rolls, cheese cake with strawberry topping, assorted fruit pies, and birthday cake.

The meal was available to service members, their families, Department of Defense employees and retirees.
