Day two underway, Munro is currently steaming toward the Solomon Islands. Goodbye Honolulu, hello Honiara!
We embarked our aviation detachment (AVDET) from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point today. This MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and crew will remain aboard for the duration of the patrol. The pilots and flight mechanics will live among the crew, and the helicopter will be available to use for training and law enforcement operations. This will also aid us in qualifying shipboard personnel in different aviation billets such as Helicopter Control Officer (HCO), Landing Signals Officer (LSO), On Scene Leader (OSL), Tie Downs, Fueling Team and Fire Team. It will also allow the pilots to maintain their shipboard currencies. The AVDET embarkation was Munro’s last stop in Hawaii, and now we head west!
