CAMP BUEHRING, Kuwait – U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Andy Tuttle, a satellite communication systems operator-maintainer is currently serving with the 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team in support of Operation Spartan Shield.
Tuttle, a native of Carthage, Miss, arrived in Kuwait in May 2018. This is his second deployment and has served in the Mississippi Army National Guard for 11 years.
Tuttle is the brigade satellite communication specialist. He supports satellite communications, provides technical support throughout the unit and assists in training junior soldiers.
Being his second deployment, Tuttle has a unique perspective on being away for the holidays.
“I feel, it’s tougher on the ones at home, obviously its kind of lonely here, but the family back home feels it more than I do,” said Tuttle, “I am accustomed to adapt to this kind of place and environment, but the families don’t have that luxury. They have to deal with everyday life without their Soldier”
For his wife, Mandy, this is a new experience.
“This is her first deployment,” said Tuttle. “She’s doing good and I’m really proud of her, even though she doesn’t always feel like it every day.”
Though they keep in touch often through text and social media, Tuttle has encouraging words for his wife.
“Hang in there, I’ll be home as soon as I can - ‘you got this’,” he said laughing, “it’s kind of an inside joke with us.”
Tuttle’s deployment will last from nine to 12 months. Once complete, he will return to his wife, Mandy, in Mississippi.
