REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (Dec. 3, 2018) – Members of the Huntsville community have a unique opportunity to advance their leadership skillset with programs offered through Leadership Greater Huntsville.
The Focus course is one of several programs LGH offers. First launched in 1990, Focus is an interactive, 2 ½-day program for those who are new to or would like to re-immerse themselves in the community. This course also draws those who don’t have the time to commit to longer programs.
Sixty members of the Focus Class 37 toured the U.S. Army Research, Development, and Engineering Command, Aviation & Missile Center, also known as AMRDEC, in November with a stop at the Prototype Integration Facility as part of a larger tour of Redstone Arsenal. While at the PIF, the class received briefings on varying technologies, including metrology and composites.
Visits to Redstone Arsenal have been included since the inception of LGH in 1986. Leadership hopes to provide a behind-the-scenes look at the variety and caliber of work that takes place on the installation.
“While some class members work [here], others have never been on post,” said Lyndsay Ferguson, LGH president and chief executive officer. “Regardless of their role, the goal is to show class members the breadth of work that occurs and to understand how it ties in to the greater Huntsville region.”
Focus is aimed at immersing individuals to areas in which they otherwise wouldn’t be involved.
“It was an enriching experience to learn about certain projects, from conception to fruition, which are being worked on at [the] PIF and to hear from the amazingly talented and passionate professionals leading the charge,” Tenesha Thompson, Madison County administrative assistant to the director of building.
LGH’s various programs help to create educated and dedicated leaders. “Focus ultimately aided me with an understanding of how I can craft and use my own leadership skills to be a difference maker in our community,” said Thomas.
“I would recommend Leadership Greater Huntsville-Focus to leaders in our community as an opportunity for the broadening of perspectives, both culturally and socioeconomically,” Thomas said. “It’s a great method to stay informed and in tune with the ever changing pulse of our community.”
