PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Information Warfare Training Command (IWTC) Corry Station staff conducted a presentation for students attending training onboard Naval Air Station Pensacola Corry Station, Florida, to commemorate the 77th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7.

Seventy-seven years ago, the Empire of Japan launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, thrusting the United States of America into the costliest war in terms of lives lost in human history. Over 50 million lives were lost including over 419,00 Americans.

The presentation focused on the contributions of the information warfare community to the war effort in the Pacific Theater. Students attending the presentation are currently attending training onboard IWTC Corry Station for jobs in the information warfare community.

Training topics included the contributions of Navy Capt. Joseph Rochefort, famed naval cryptologist, and his team of cryptanalyst working to break Japanese cryptographic codes at Station HYPO. This work played a key role in allowing the Navy to prepare for the Japanese invasion of Midway Island.

“This event allowed the staff to share stories of how information warriors of the past made significant impacts during the course of history,” said Cryptologic Technician Collection (CTR) 1st Class Casey Lima, a CTR “A” school instructor. “It allows them an opportunity to share their passion of history and heritage with students.”

IWTC Corry Station, as part of the Center for Information Warfare Training, provides a continuum of training to Navy and joint service personnel that prepares them to conduct information warfare (IW) across the full spectrum of military operations.

With four schoolhouse commands, two detachments, and training sites throughout the United States and Japan, CIWT is recognized as Naval Education and Training Command’s top learning center for the past two years.
