CAMP COURTNEY, OKINAWA, Japan— Members of the local and U.S. communities attended the Camp Courtney Christmas and Holiday Festival Dec. 8-9 at Camp Courtney.
The event, also known as Courtney Fest, provided entertainment and activities for service members and families stationed on Okinawa during the holiday season.
“While we’re in Okinawa, it’s nice to have these events close by,” said Cpl. Jewel Edmonds, an embarkation specialist with Combat Logistics Regiment 3, 3rd Marine Logistics Group. “It reminds me of the holidays I spent as a child, with all of the food and fun activities going on. All that’s missing is my family, but at least I have a good support system out here.”
Carnival rides and games were offered to festival-goers to enjoy, and even an assortment of foods. Headlining the festival was country superstar, Randy Houser.
“This is truly an awesome way of exchanging cultural differences between two nations,” said Tegumi Oshiro, resident of Chatan, Okinawa, attending the festival. “It allows us to meet face-to-face, instead of just reading the papers or seeing social media posts. We meet real people and get to make those connections with them.”
