‘Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree, Your branches green delight us’… and they are indeed beautiful and shining with the lights of the season around the Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center, thanks to help from volunteers who stepped in to support the Voluntary Service Office of the Columbia VA Health Care System.
With a couple in the auditorium and one in the main entry way, these trees were no easy task to assemble and decorate for the staff and public to enjoy. But thanks to the many volunteers who support the Voluntary Service Office, they were able to be decorated in time for the holidays.
One such group is the Women’s Empowerment Group. “They are one of the greatest assets in our volunteer workforce,” Mary Kirkland, volunteer service specialist said. “All I have to do is say what I need, and they are there. The women Veterans in the Empowerment Group are always willing to give back in support to the medical center and our Veterans.”
Nancy Cuff, a member of the group expressed the exact sentiments. “I like giving back to the Veterans and this is just a small way to do just that,” Cuff said.
Staff members and other volunteer service organization members along with the Voluntary Service Office also contributed of their time to bring about the holiday joy around Dorn with the tree decorations.
