Team Misawa members united for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Misawa Air Base, Japan, Nov. 28.
The ceremony sparked the holiday spirit with hot chocolate, Christmas carols from the Sollars Elementary School Choir and the Misawa City Boys and Girls Choir, Christmas lights and personalized holiday greeting cards from each squadron.
“This event serves as a reminder of the importance of feeling wanted in Misawa and shows that the base cares about our needs,” said Ciera Jones, a child supervisor technician with the 35th FSS Child Development Center.
Not only did this event aid in community cohesion, it offered activities for friends, families and civilians to experience Christmas cheer.
“I really enjoy the unique feeling that you get this time of year,” added Jones.
The Christmas tree lit up after a collaborative countdown, dazzling more than 100 attendees.
“The holiday season is one of many faith traditions and personal beliefs,” said Col. Kristopher K. Struve, the 35th Fighter Wing commander. "Many of us practice these faiths in different ways, but despite our individual faith practices, there is a common theme amongst many of our traditions: fellowship and reaching out to others. However you choose to celebrate, this is the time to come together and share in the spirit of community."
From hot chocolate to heartfelt community, Team Misawa continues to bring the holiday magic home to service members.
