FORT BENNING, Ga. (Dec. 21, 2018) – Leaders and Soldiers of 2nd Battalion, 19th Infantry Regiment and 1st Battalion, 46th Infantry Regiment conducted Holiday Block Leave airport operations Dec. 19 to 20 from Fort Benning, Georgia, to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Family members picked up 2nd Battalion, 19th Infantry Regiment trainees from the Fort Benning, Georgia, Sand Hill Recreation Center Dec. 19 for Holiday Block Leave.
The annual event marks the time when students and trainees depart schools and training centers in mid-December to spend the holidays with their Families and friends.
More than 4,000 trainees will travel from Fort Benning to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, be picked up by Family members from post or utilize bus services to travel home. Both brigades have been meticulously planning and rehearsing operations to ensure trainees get home as swiftly and safely as possible for the holiday season.
“Holiday block leave provides a necessary two-week break for both trainees and cadre alike,” said Col. William D. Voorhies, commander of the 198th Infantry Brigade. “We want trainees to enjoy their leave, recharge with loved ones and friends, and come back to Fort Benning safely, ready to train. We look forward to seeing them next year, highly motivated, extremely dedicated and ready to get back to growing lethality for the United States Army."
