FORT BENNING, Ga. (Jan. 14, 2019) – The Maneuver Center of Excellence and Fort Benning gained a new senior enlisted leader at a change of responsibility ceremony Jan. 14 at Marshall Auditorium at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Command Sgt. Maj. Martin S. Celestine took responsibility as the MCoE’s command sergeant major from his previous position as the command sergeant major of the U.S. Army Infantry School, also at Fort Benning.
Command Sgt. Maj. Scott A. Brzak relinquished responsibility to take a position as CSM for G3/5/7 Operations, Plans and Training for the Headquarters of the Department of the Army at the Pentagon in Washington.
Maj. Gen. Gary M. Brito, MCoE and Fort Benning commanding general, presided over the ceremonial passing of the colors and spoke during the ceremony. During his remarks, Brito highlighted his working relationship with Brzak.
“I could not have asked for a better senior enlisted adviser, command sergeant major, and battle buddy,” he said of Brzak, whom Brito also knew from his time in the 25th Infantry Division. “It was very clear to me that he is a very dedicated professional, extremely competent in all that he had to do, and he supported the command very well.”
Brito went on to cite the accomplishments of the Maneuver Center of Excellence that Brzak helped bring to fruition, including the establishment and deployment of the 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade; the transformation of 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, to Task Force 1-28; Soldier Lethality and Next Generation Combat Vehicle initiatives; and transformation of Infantry One-Station Unit Training.
“You never lost your connection to Soldiers and responsibility to train leaders of all ranks, including me,” said Brito. “I am proud to have worked with you.”
“Fort Benning is truly a special place that touches every branch of service,” said Brzak. “It has been an honor to be part of Team Benning.”
Celestine, as he continues at Fort Benning with new responsibilities, credited the successes of his Army career in part to the support he received from Family, friends and fellow Soldiers.
“An individual’s success is never that of his own,” he said.
Celestine noted that service in the military is “a calling that’s greater than myself.”
“It’s another opportunity to continue serving, to be part of the profession of arms,” he said.
