ORLANDO, FLORIDA - Hundreds of soldiers with the 143d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) attended a network hiring event at the units' headquarters in central Orlando Nov. 17, 2018. The event, hosted by Paychecks for Patriots and coordinated through the Private Public Partnership Program (P3), featured more than 50 different companies and agencies representing a wide spectrum of career fields.
"When Soldiers reach out and say I'm unemployed and need a job it's our responsibility and duty to them to provide the resources," said Rachel Foster, Army readiness specialist for the 81st Readiness Division and regional lead for P3.
Service members talked to the different employers and learn about opportunities available to them and how their military service translates to certain career fields.
"I'm here seeing what opportunities are out there and what the state of Florida has to offer," said Master Sgt. Chris Pinero, religious affairs specialist with the 143d ESC.
Pinero is planning to retire from the Army after 27 years of service. He is looking at opportunities in the security industry for himself and his older brother who is interested in moving to Florida from Maryland.
Foster stressed the importance of partnership and outreach with community employers stating throughout her career in assisting service members that events like these are responsible for nearly 50 percent of the hires she has coordinated.
"If there is a Soldier that needs help we want to provide that to them and forming partnerships with employers is key," said Foster.
Approximately 300 service members and their families attended the event.
"I think it was a very successful event. Soldiers were able to meet one-on-one with employers in a comfortable environment where they could form relationships without a rush for time," said Pinero.
