CAMP KINSER, OKINAWA, Japan—U.S. service members, their families, and Okinawa residents attended the 2019 Hansen Festival Jan. 26-27, at Camp Hansen.
The two-day event is part of periodic festivals held to provide service members residing in Okinawa and their families a time to relax and enjoy music, games and food.
“The festival is very good,” said Kyogo Prefecture resident, Shota Ishikawa. “It is a good opportunity to come and learn about the [U.S.-Japan] defense relationship.”
Activities for all ages were available. A rock climbing wall, bouncy house, trampolines and more were a part of Fun Land for children.
The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force displayed vehicles for the public to view; and Marines with III Marine Expeditionary Force conducted military working dog demonstrations.
Entertainment included dancing, street performances, cover bands, and live entertainment with rap artist Flo Rida as the headline event.
At the end of the evening Camp Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Col. Larry M. Jenkins, emphasized the impact of maintaining a close relationship with Okinawa residents. “One of the things that makes Camp Hansen so great is our friends outside the gate.” said Jenkins.
