    MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. –Before setting out on some of the most attractive game lands in the area, prospective hunters on Marine Corps Base have a few new rules to be aware of. The base’s recently-updated hunting order includes changes to the outdoor recreation, hunting, fishing and trapping programs permitted on Camp Lejeune. Marine Corps Installations East-Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune hunting Order 5090.115A was signed December 20, 2018.
    With over 161,000 acres of land full of wildlife, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune’s team of Conservation Law Enforcement Officers (CLEO) manages safe hunting environments and enforces applicable state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to natural resources.
    Paul Boniface, chief CLEO at MCIEAST-MCB Camp Lejeune wants Camp Lejeune inhabitants to understand some of the key changes that are being enforced.
    Sponsors are only allowed two guests when participating in any individual or organized hunting. Hunters are only permitted in hunting areas up to an hour and a half before or after legal shooting time with the exception of individual hunters hunting raccoon or opossum or hunters tracking wounded game. White-trailed deer and black bear baiting is permitted in the Bow-Only hunting areas per North Carolina rules and regulations. All harvested game must be reported via the electronic conservation tracking system on the hunting pass. Skinning and processing harvested game animals at check stations is prohibited.
    In addition, a boat launch permit is required for all launch sites which include: Onslow Beach Bridge, Mile Hammock Bay, Traps Bay, Mill Creek, More Road Landing, French Creek, Rhodes Point, Town Point, Weil Point, Maple Landing, Everett Creek and Freeman Creek Landing. A permit is also required at the Gottschalk, Courthouse Bay and New River marinas. A Boat Launch Permit can only be obtained through the CLEO office on base.
    Lastly, trees painted with a solid blue ring are designated for red-cockaded woodpeckers. Physical contact with marked trees is prohibited and recreational activities occurring within 50 feet are to be kept to a minimum.
