    Story by Spc. Christian Nevitt

    7th Infantry Division

After completing four challenges – an essay, exam, Army Physical Fitness Test, and a military knowledge board - I Corps’ Sgt. 1st Class Christopher L. Dehn, distinguished himself from his peers and earned the title of the 2019 I Corps IG NCO of the Year. He will represent America’s First Corps in the U.S. Army Pacific IG NCO of the Year Competition later this year.

Competing against 7th Infantry Division’s Sgt. 1st Class Troy C. Mueller and Sgt.1st Class Emmanuel U. Madu, also from I Corps, Dehn felt his essay was the key to his success in the competition.

“The point of my essay was to show the importance of the Inspector General and how they can improve readiness throughout the corps,” Dehn said. “My piece is looking out for Soldiers.”

“If they cannot focus on their duties throughout the day,” he continued. “If they’re more worried about a pay issue, a promotion issue, a leadership issue, then they’re not going to be able to accomplish their mission.”

During the two days, each challenge tied directly into the IG mission statement.

“Be the eyes, ears, voice, and conscience of the Army across the spectrum of operations. Conduct thorough, objective, and impartial inspections, assessments, and investigations. Provide assistance and training. Advise and assist Army leaders to maintain Army values, readiness, and effectiveness in the promotion of well-being, good order, and discipline.”
