    COLUMBIA, S.C. - The South Carolina National Guard conducted an Enlisted Hall of Fame induction ceremony at McCrady Training Center in Eastover, South Carolina, Jan. 30, 2019, to recognize three service members.

    U.S. Air Force Command Chief Master Sgt. (Ret.) Archie Sightler Jr., U.S. Army Master Sgt. (Ret.) Harry Humphrey, and U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. (Ret.) Gary Coates Sr. were inducted for their contributions to the South Carolina National Guard.

    Induction into the South Carolina National Guard’s Enlisted Hall of Fame is an honor dating over three decades for senior non-commissioned officers who have gone above and beyond in performance of their duties. Recipients are presented a plaque, which hangs at the 218th Regiment Leadership Command at McCrady Training Center where troops train to develop their leadership skills.

    Sightler retired as a command chief master sergeant and served as the last Senior Enlisted Advisor and first Wing Command Chief for the 169th Fighter Wing, located in Eastover, South Carolina, and served for 39 years in the South Carolina Air National Guard. He currently resides in Gaston, South Carolina with his wife, Judy and two children. Coates served as the command sergeant major for the 59th Troop Command, headquartered in Eastover, South Carolina and served for 32 years in the South Carolina Army National Guard. Humphrey retired as a master sergeant and served as the first sergeant for Alpha Battery, 1st of the 263rd Air Defense Artillery in Columbia, South Carolina and served for 34 years in the South Carolina National Guard. He currently resides in Anderson, South Carolina with his wife, Betty and three children.

    "Each of these men, through the course of their careers, developed service members…today, they become ageless," said U.S. Army Col. Z. Krompecher, First Army, senior Army advisor for South Carolina and guest speaker for the ceremony.

    Accomplishments and awards Sightler accumulated throughout his military career include the U.S. Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, the U.S. Air Force Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the South Carolina National Guard Active State Service Ribbon with three Silver Stars, and the South Carolina National Guard Governor’s Unit Citation Ribbon with two Oak Leaf Clusters. Accomplishments and awards Coates accumulated throughout his military career include the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the South Carolina Exceptional Service Medal, and the Palmetto Service Ribbon. Accomplishments and awards Humphrey accumulated throughout his military career include the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the South Carolina Active State Service Medal with two silver stars.
