The Pennsylvania Air National Guard has selected its annual Airmen of the Year from a slate of awardees representing accomplished Airmen from its wings in Coraopolis, Middletown and Horsham.

This year’s recipients are: Airman of the Year Senior Airman Christopher M. Ryan, 111th Attack Wing, Horsham; Non-commissioned Officer of the Year Staff Sgt. Lucas C. Hollenbach, 111th Attack Wing, Horsham; First Sergeant of the Year Master Sgt. Jason T. Stehly, 111th Attack Wing, Horsham; and Senior Non-commissioned Officer of the Year Master Sgt. Keith P. Gregory, 171st Air Refueling Wing, Coraopolis.

“It is an honor each year to recognize those who are setting the standard and reflect great credit upon our organization,” said Brig. Gen. Michael Regan, Pennsylvania Air National Guard commander. “To win at the unit level and state level, and go on to the national competition is a significant accomplishment for each of these Airmen and I wish them all the best as they proceed in the process.”

Senior Airman Ryan, of Staten Island, New York, is a security forces specialist in the 111th. He recently completed a deployment in 2017 to Al Dhafra Air Base, United Arab Emirates. Ryan has completed numerous law-enforcement related trainings bolstering his military skillset and has been active in educating Airmen on educational, career and retirement benefits available to them. He is employed full time as a police officer in the New York City Police Department.

Staff Sgt. Hollenbach, of Telford, Pennsylvania, is a cyber systems operator assigned to the 111th’s Operations Support Squadron and has supervised numerous IT projects and installations to improve operations. Hollenbach recently completed his master’s degree in multicultural education and is an active volunteer in his community. He is employed full time as a technician with the 111th.

Master Sgt. Stehly, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is a first sergeant assigned to the 111th’s Medical Group. Stehly has deployed five times overseas in support of contingency operations and recently completed a deployment as a first sergeant supporting chapel operations in Southwest Asia. His efforts to empower and recognize Airmen have had substantive benefits in revitalizing morale and promoting esprit de corps. He is employed full time as a police officer in the Philadelphia Police Department.

Master Sgt. Gregory, of Baden, Pennsylvania, is a security forces training instructor and chief of information protection assigned the 171st’s Security Forces Squadron. Serving previously as a Marine with multiple deployments from 2003-2005, he has completed several deployments with the 171st and was nominated for a Bronze Star in 2018 for actions in support of Operations Freedom’s Sentinel and Resolute Support in Afghanistan. He is employed full time as a technician with the 171st.

All four Airmen will now compete at the national level for their respective categories.
