Tech. Sgt. Cynthia Stockmaster, serves as a Public Health Technician with the 179th Airlift Wing Medical Group. Although she is still working her way through nursing school, she already has the motivation and skills to help others in order to improve the readiness of not only the members of the 179th, but the total force as well.
Stockmaster first began her journey in the medical field in 2012 as a Registered Dietician, however she eventually decided that nursing was a better fit.
“I believe that nursing will be a better choice for me because I think that I can take a patient at its worse, at his or her worst, and help them become their best.”
“I guess I have always been a fixer,” said Stockmaster. “I’ve always wanted to be there for people and I think the greatest way that I can impact people’s lives is through their health.”
Although the medical field can sometimes be a challenge mentally and physically as a single mother, she is no stranger to the struggles of being a caregiver.
“Being a mother is a huge responsibility,” said Stockmaster. “It was very, very life changing for me.”
Part of her job as a military caregiver includes making sure Airmen from the unit are prepared before deploying overseas, and she knows exactly what they’ll face.
“In 2011, I went to Manas, Kyrgyzstan,” said Stockmaster. “I did a lot of humanitarian projects while I was there.”
Back home, this experience helps her understand and do her job better. As a Public Health Technician, she is responsible for giving shots to prevent diseases, providing hearing protection for members and even fetal protection care for expecting military members, said Stockmaster.
Stockmaster said one of her biggest inspirations is her mother. “She has been there through the ups and the downs, the highs and lows, she’s been my rock and I know I can count on her for everything”.
