The 2019 Central and South Asia (CASA) Directors of Military Intelligence (DMI) Conference, hosted by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), brought together Directors of Military Intelligence from Central and South Asia and subject matter experts from America’s intelligence and academic community, Feb. 4–6.

This 4th annual conference focused on conflict resolution in Afghanistan. DMIs and keynote presenters provided proactive solutions to current regional matters.

Discussions addressed internal and external factors concerning Afghanistan and identified outside influencers and potential spoilers to lasting peace in the region.

"Sometimes provocation is exactly what is needed to break out of the worn mental paths and analytic models we can find ourselves trapped in,” said CENTCOM’s Vice Director of Intelligence, Mrs. Cari Gast-Mulherin, who chaired the event.

Afghan Ambassador to the United States, Roya Rahmani, addressed the conference expressing that Afghanistan has no shortage of problems, but there is a lot of hope and optimism for the future.

The conference ended on a high note with the CASA states affirming their support for Afghan peace processes.

CENTCOM’s International Programs Branch Chief, Lt. Col. Jane Stokes said, "This conference is a testament to CENTCOM’s commitment to bringing regional players together to solve regional and global problems."

Attendees from six CASA nations included representatives from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
