Soldiers of 703rd Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, held a field training exercise concentrating their efforts on becoming more efficient in managing and moving a Brigade Support Area enhancing unit combat and sustainment readiness at Fort Stewart Ga., Feb. 6 - March 11.
The training provided companies the opportunity to refine their Standard Operating Procedures and identify requirements needed for their upcoming missions at Spartan Focus and a deployment to the National Training Center slated for later this spring, that will certify Soldiers for worldwide deployment in support of the brigades mission.
Prior to any mission, troops and commanders execute rehearsal of concept drills identifying areas of improvement, making needed changes and proofing those changes in a tactical environment. That is what this FTX aimed to provide the Soldiers of the maintainer battalion. .
"Our main objective is to evaluate and aline where we are, as a whole within the brigade said First Sgt. Tyrone Thompson for Combat medics of 703rd Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division. This is the first training event where 703rd BSB has participated with other Forward Support Companies, so it is vital that there is cohesion between us."
The battalion commander oversees each company and ensures it displays working continuity within its operation as a functional support group. From special supply activity, to mechanics and medics, every job is important.
“Our mission is to prepare for upcoming training events like the National Training Center said Spc. Dylan Winegarner, utilities equipment repairer for 703rd Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division. It is my job to oversee maintenance on equipment so it is ready to go when needed."
The brigades upcoming rotation at NTC will consist of realistic unified land operations certifying the brigade level combat team for deployment. While at NTC units face obstacles that will challenge them to adapt appropriately in a hostile environment, while providing leaders and Soldiers with feedback and suggestions on things that need to be fixed and adjusted.
“This is not my first time supporting the sustainment brigade operations however this is my first time engaging and expanding our perimeter with the brigade as a whole said Cpt. Jesenia Perez, commander of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 703rd Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division. “We are responsible for all the logistical support that the maneuver units within the brigade are required to have.”
The training concluded with the entire BSA being moved from one location to another under a time constraint. Successfully testing the units ability to effectively deploy and redeploy in a short period of time.
