3rd Attack Helicopter Battalion, 1st Aviation Regiment, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division from Fort Riley, Kansas, recently arrived at Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, Romania.
The aviation unit is in Eastern Europe to support Atlantic Resolve, a joint and multinational commitment to build readiness and enhance the bond between NATO partner nations.
"Nightmare battalion is excited to be here and excited to enjoy the culture of all the European nations we're going to visit," said Lt. Col. John Tiedeman, commander of 3-1 AHB. "More specifically here in Romania, we're looking forward to making a difference and continuing our relationships with our NATO partners."
The battalion had a phased arrival over the first two weeks of February. The unit will participate in upcoming training exercises with Romanian, Bulgarian, and Latvian troops.
"We're really looking at building up our combat ready units from the Balkans to the Baltics, where we'll have reinforcement and support from all our NATO partners," Tiedeman said. "Those partnerships are really important because we can't do it alone."
3-1 AHB is looking forward to their AR rotation and are excited to be working with NATO partners and allies, Tiedeman said.
"One individual on a team can be good, but all of us working together can create some outstanding outcomes," Tiedeman said. "As we work with our NATO partners and build those relationships, the sum of all the parts become much greater than the individual."
3-1 AHB will take over at MKAB for 3rd Attack Helicopter Battalion, 4th Aviation Regiment, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, who will return to Fort Carson, Colorado.
