Commander, Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 3 visited the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Preble (DDG 88), Feb 15.
Rear Adm. Mike Wettlaufer arrived aboard to discuss the ship's deployment and operations with the John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group.
Wettlauffer also took the time to personally thank the crew for their service to their country and their contributions to Navy lethality.
“You, without a doubt, are on the tip of the spear,” said Wettlaufer.
During his visit, Wettlaufer toured the ship’s combat information center, central control station, the bridge, and engaged with the ship’s leadership.
“What a great opportunity for our Sailors to be able to show the capabilities of our ship and its crew to the admiral," said Cmdr. Leonardo Giovannelli, commanding officer of the Preble. "His visit shows the type of leader he is. To take the time to visit with our crew shows how much he cares about Sailors and believes each of us is making a difference.”
The Preble is deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations in support of security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region as an independent deployer currently attached to CSG 3. CSG 3 includes the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74), Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 9, the Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay (CG 53) and Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 21.
