FORT BRAGG, N.C. — Robin Uzzle received the U.S. Army Reserve Inspectors of the Year 2018 award during a ceremony hosted by Brig. Gen. Alberto Rosende, chief of staff, U.S. Army Reserve Command, at Fort Bragg, N.C., Feb. 19, 2019.
Uzzle will compete for the Department of the Army Inspector of the Year at the World-Wide Inspector General Conference in April.
“When I started working with the Inspector General, as an Administrative Officer, I had no idea what IG did,” said Uzzle. “We handled our issues at the lowest possible level.”
Uzzle’s journey began 12 years ago, when she started working for Ronald Johnson, deputy inspector general, U.S. Army Reserve Command, who showed her that IG was about helping others.
It was this aspect that encouraged Uzzle to pursue a career as an investigator.
“After working here for a little bit, seeing the positive impact IG had on Soldiers, Civilians, and dependents — I realized I wanted to become an investigator,” Uzzle said. “When I leave for the day, I have a great sense of accomplishment knowing I’ve done something meaningful to help someone.”
Uzzle said that Johnson started integrating her into the position by helping on cases at first. This allowed her to slowly grow her knowledge of what it takes to run a successful investigation until she was ready to go it alone.
“She is an extremely dedicated and highly competent individual with outstanding interpersonal skills,” Johnson said. “Her judgement, integrity and exemplary personal conduct have won the respect of those who work with her.”
One of those co-workers, Master Sgt. Donna Robinson, said she is a fountain of knowledge who maintains her positive outlook in any situation.
Robinson said Uzzle’s desire to help extends beyond the workplace. Uzzle took the time to learn about Robinson and discovered that the holiday season was about to be a difficult time for her.
“It was just my son and I this holiday season and she opened up her house to us to extend holiday cheer,” said Master Sgt. Donna Robinson. “It’s rare to see that kind hospitality this day and age.
“I think there’s a stereotype that civilians are only willing to do what is listed in their job description.” Robinson said. “Ms. Uzzle consistently goes above and beyond, she understands we are a team.”
Uzzle manages 13 major duties to include budgeting, training, records and security, among others. She ensures her Soldiers receive the recognition they deserve, ensuring, with 99% success, her Soldiers received awards and evaluations prior to departing their assignment with her.
“It means a lot to me to be recognized as the USARC IG of the year, it shows that my work is appreciated,” said Uzzle. “I never thought I’d be selected to represent the entire USAR; it’s an honor.”
