TULSA, Okla. - The Society of American Military Engineers in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District, held their annual “Meet the Corps” day at the Tulsa Technology Center in Owasso, Okla., Feb. 20.

Over 500 people registered for the two-day event which provided information on upcoming Tulsa District projects as well as an opportunity for participants to speak with key Corps of Engineers representatives.

Shortly after opening comments, the event kicked off with a message of support from Congressman Kevin Hern, U.S. District 1, Oklahoma.

“I really applaud what you all are trying to accomplish, moving this country forward and working our infrastructure,” stated Hern. “My goal in life is to remove barriers to let you folks do what your core function is, and that’s to run your businesses and be profitable doing it.”

According to Hern’s congressional webpage he was recently appointed to the Committee on Natural Resources, the Committee on Small Business, and the Committee on the Budget.

“We put this event together to provide industry advance notification of upcoming requirements, but also give them an opportunity to network and partner and to provide access to Corps personnel who are the contract administrators,” stated Gene Snyman, Tulsa District Business Development Director.

This was the eighth year for MTC which is the primary business outreach event for the Tulsa District.

“Our goal is to deliver quality projects on time and on budget,” stated Col. Christopher Hussin, Tulsa District Commander. “One of the ways to do that is by partnering at events like this, because ultimately we really do succeed or fail as a team.”

The event is designed to streamline processes and better facilitate teamwork and success.

“When you partner with the Corps, with the Tulsa District, you really become part of a world-class team. We want to do everything we can to ensure that what we do as a team successfully delivers these projects for our customers,” stated Hussin.

The “Meet the Corps” event is typically held in February each year.
