FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. – Members of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard conducted initial Honor Guard training here Feb. 26 as part of a five day training session. All trainees participate on a volunteer basis.
Initial Honor Guard training introduces Soldiers to the fundamentals of conducting an Honor Guard detail. Training consists of instruction for 2 Soldier details and covers topics including the team flag folding sequence, bugle sequence, casket sequence, urn sequence and more. The training is so thorough that trainees will fold the flag in excess of hundreds of times to ensure proficiency and professionalism prior to their end of course evaluations.
At the end of the training session, Soldiers are evaluated on the skills they’ve learned. Results of the evaluation will determine whether or not a trainee will be invited to join the Pennsylvania Army National Guard Military Funeral Honors Team, which provides military funeral honors for more than 280 Army Veterans each month.
If an individual accepts the offer, the Soldier will undergo more intensive training in the future.
Trainees participating in this iteration of initial Honor Guard training include:
- Spc. Tyler Andre assigned to 2nd Squadron, 104th Cavalry Regiment, 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 28th Infantry Division
- Spc. Ronnie Marriott assigned to the 103rd Armor Regiment, 55th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, 28th Infantry Division
- Pfc. Therion Jenkins assigned to the 1067th Transportation Company, 228th Transportation Battalion, 213th Regional Support Group
