Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society representatives kicked off their annual fund drive with Carolina Marine Air-Ground Task Force leaders at Camp Lejeune, N.C., Feb. 27, 2019.
The annual fund drive is held to bolster significant charitable contributions for Marines and Sailors seeking emergency financial assistance.
“These kind of events give the commanding general a public venue to express his support toward the contributions,” said Rita Fountain, the director of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society at Camp Lejeune. “It encourages the troops to participate when their superiors are also donating.”
The fund drive also promotes increased awareness to Marines and Sailors, presenting personnel with options for financial assistance.
“The purpose of this active-duty fund drive is not only to collect funds for those in need, but to educate everyone on our services,” said Fountain. “If they have an emergency financial need, they know we are here to help them through it.”
Marines and Sailors who would like to donate and help their fellow Marines, Sailors and their families in need, can visit action.nmcrs.org or find out more information by speaking to their chain of command.
“Last year, society-wide, we provided over $45 million to 51,000 clients,” said Fountain. “We were only able to provide those services because of the donations from our troops and dedicated volunteers.”
For more information about receiving financial assistance from the NMCRS, Marines and Sailors can visit nmcrs.org or contact your local Camp Lejeune NMCRS at (910) 451-5346.
