While the Field Artillery Squadron, 2d Cavalry Regiment is participating in Dynamic Front 19 in the Grafenwöhr Training Area, Germany, culinary specialists from all over the U.S. Army are testing their skills at Fort Lee, Va. at the World Wide Culinary Competition. From Mar. 6 - 12, one of Hell Squadron’s own culinary specialists, Spc. Carril Alyssa Konkler of Phoenix Troop, will be representing 2CR in the competition.
Konkler joined the U.S. Army to pursue further education, explore her passions and see what careers might be available for her in the future. As a 92G culinary specialist, she is responsible for working long shifts at the dining facility on Rose Barracks in order to provide exceptional food service to the Soldiers of 2CR.
“The Army is my new found home,” said Konkler. “It helps me to grow everyday into the person I want to be.”
Recently, Konkler competed in the squadron and then regimental Soldier of the Quarter Boards where she was tested in basic Soldier tasks and drills as well as overall physical fitness. In doing so, Konkler earned recognition as both the squadron and regimental Soldier of the Quarter.
As a result, when it came time for individuals from the regiment to be selected for the culinary competition, Konkler was personally selected to represent the regiment by Command Sgt. Maj. Steven Brown, senior enlisted advisor, 2CR.
Konkler has been avidly preparing and is excited to showcase her skills at the competition.
“We will be doing professional plating, cuts and answering advanced questions pertaining to food science,” said Konkler.
Konkler hopes by attending an event like this she will gain a broader perspective of her military occupational specialty and will be able to network with other people excelling within the MOS.
“We want to provide all Soldiers with opportunities to grow and learn as often as possible and we cannot think of someone more deserving,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Craig Collins, senior enlisted advisor, FA Squadron, 2CR.
