FORT GORDON, Ga. – The Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) Det. Fort Gordon announced its inaugural Student of the Month award recipients, March 5.

Selected were Cryptologic Technician (Interpretive) 2nd Class Josiah Kerstetter, from Hersey, Pennsylvania, a student in the Apprentice Cryptologic Language Program, and Electronics Technician Seaman Rodolfo Gutierrez, from San Bernardino, California, a student in the Satellite Communications Program.

Kerstetter and Gutierrez were selected for this formal recognition because of their outstanding and well-rounded performance as military students.

The Student of the Month program was developed by the CIWT Det. Fort Gordon White Hat Association as a way to recognize exceptional Sailors in a student status. The program provides an additional opportunity to recognize military students who display not only outstanding classroom performance, but also demonstrate exceptional leadership, physical fitness, professionalism, and military bearing.

Every month, instructors from each department will nominate a student worthy of special recognition, and organizational leadership will determine which Sailors will be awarded. Upon formal recognition at command quarters, the Student of the Month recipients receive a certificate of accomplishment from the officer in charge, and are treated to a mentorship lunch with the senior enlisted leader.

"While the excellent reputation of the instructors here at the detachment was known to me well before my arrival in December, I have been overly impressed with all of the students that have come through our doors since that time,” stated CIWT Det. Fort Gordon Officer in Charge Lt. Cmdr. Joseph Kruppa. “When Master Chief Dikun and I were approached by the White Hat Association with the Student of the Month Program, we agreed that it would be a great opportunity to recognize the outstanding performance and professionalism of our students and instantly authorized its establishment as a testament to their contributions."
