Instructors from The Shooting Institute visited Goodfellow Air Force Base, Feb. 26 to March 1, to help the 17th Security Forces Squadron learn new techniques involving tactical vehicle maneuvers to increase efficiency in active shooter response times and preparedness.
The participants in this particular course received two days of instruction involving high risk traffic stops, approaching the scene of an active shooter, engaging targets while operating a vehicle, and navigating through multiple advanced driving courses.
“The main thing is to get the defender to the scene safely,” said The Shooting Institute Driving Course Lead Instructor, Troy DeHart. “That also means properly positioning their vehicle, for their safety and the public’s.”
The course that the Goodfellow defenders participated in has been specifically designed for law enforcement. After receiving demonstrations and instructions on individual blocks of training, the defenders put to practice what they were taught.
The second day focused on combining multiple aspects of the course during training exercises.
“Training like this is invaluable,” said 17th Security Forces Squadron Police Officer, Joshua York. “Our job is hands-on, so the more practice and training we receive the better.”
Leadership from Goodfellow also saw demonstrations and received some tips for driving and different ways to fire weapons.
“What we are trying to do is teach your defenders how to be as efficient as they can be,” said The Shooting Institute Founder and CEO, Jared Hudson. “We are just giving them more tools and tactics that they can use if the situation ever arises.”
