Two married senior master sergeants facilitated a dual-military seminar for Airmen from RAF Mildenhall and RAF Lakenheath March 7, 2019, at RAF Mildenhall, England.
The seminar included lectures such as “The 5 Love Languages,” dual-military assignments, and a dual-military panel at the end.
“The seminar is important because we have 416 military spouses who are mil-to-mil at Mildenhall and the surrounding areas, and nine times out of 10 military programs are different for dual military, which makes it unique for them,” said Senior Master Sgt. Nicole Hicks, 100th Force Support Squadron military personnel flight superintendent.
Hicks and her husband, Senior Master Sgt. Jewell Hicks, 100th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron first sergeant, started the seminar in October 2018. Their entire 12 years of marriage have been as dual military members.
“I really enjoyed the seminar since my husband and I were the lowest ranking, so it helps to hear other people’s struggles and experiences, which is a great way to prepare for the future,” said Airman Tara Gammel, 48th Logistics Readiness Squadron central storage apprentice. “The seminar brought into discussion problems that may not have been addressed for dual-military.”
This seminar gave dual-military members the opportunity to share their unique Air Force experiences.
“The overall mission for the dual-military seminar was to come together and discuss each other’s experiences and share how we deal with that,” Hicks said.
