BOSTON, Mass. – The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109) arrived in Boston, Thursday, March 14, 2019, to participate in city’s St. Patrick’s Day events.
City officials and event coordinators stood by as the ship arrived in the historic city to officially greet the Jason Dunham crew.
“The crew and I are incredibly excited to visit such a historic and vibrant city,” said Cmdr. Morgan Roberts, commanding officer of the Jason Dunham. “The crew is rightfully proud of this mighty ship and is looking forward to showing it off to the great people of Boston.”
Dunham’s crew of approximately 300 Sailors will be participating in multiple holiday events during their visit to include marching in the South Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade, a wreath laying ceremony at the Massachusetts Fallen Heroes Memorial and volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club of America.
The ship will be offering guided tours available to the general public March 15 and 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Commissioned in 2010 and homeported in Norfolk, Va., the ship is named in honor of Cpl. Jason Dunham, United States Marine Corps, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism during combat operations in Karabilah, Iraq on April 14, 2004.
