Airmen from the 791st Missile Security Forces Squadron participated in a three-day nuclear tactical skills training course at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota.

“They protect and serve our most important asset in the Air Force, our Airmen,” said Staff Sgt. Justin Bush, 91st Security Support Squadron instructor.

With two-thirds of the nuclear triad at Minot AFB, the 791st MSFS protects one of the Air Force’s most powerful weapons, resulting in very aggressive training measures, said Bush.

Exercises such as nuclear tactical skills training allows Airmen to strengthen their skills and learn how to work with one another in times of elevated threat or stress.

“Training is important because it gives a foundation for every security forces member,” said Staff Sgt. Travis Westmoreland, 91st Security Support Squadron instructor. “They all know exactly how they should be responding to a real situation of somebody getting hit by an improvised explosive device or having to rescue one of their own.”

Throughout the three days, Airmen learned convoy operations, weapons manipulation, close quarter combat, force-on-force simulation and various other aspects of training to ensure they can protect people and important parts of the installation.

“The training we do helps the Airmen work together,” said Bush. “[Now we know that] when the real thing occurs, they know how each other operates, so they can accomplish the mission.”
