    2nd Medical Recruiting Battalion

Lt. Col. (P) Warren Stewart, commander of the 2nd Medical Recruiting Battalion, has been selected for a fellowship to the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. The fellowship, offered through the Army War College, is designed to foster and promote awareness and open communications concerning issues relevant to the Army within institutions key to defense and security policy formulation.
Fellows selected for the program, expected to number no more than 10 senior-level Army officers, will collaborate with officers from other services as well as civilian and corporate leadership. Other federal agencies will also participate in the fellowship.
According the information provided by the Army War College, fellows pursue individual learning plans designed to encourage critical thinking in addressing national issues at the strategic level as well as evaluate theories of war, national security policy, strategic leadership, global security and regional issues. Projects also call for analysis of regional, governmental, military and private organizational processes, structures and capabilities aimed at achieving strategic decision making.
Relationship building with other government agencies will be critical, according to Stewart, for any future positions he may be assigned to or apply for.
Each Army fellow will be mentored by a general officer.
Stewart is the only Army Medical Department officer to have been selected for the yearlong in-residence program and will be moving to the Boston area this summer, not long after his April 1 promotion to colonel.
“It’s an honor to have been selected,” Stewart said, adding that he’s been through a similar process previously.
“I’ve done a Rand Fellowship,” he added, “so I’m somewhat familiar with the process and I’m really looking forward to working with some of the smartest people in the world.”
Stewart, an Army nurse with a doctorate in nursing practice from Duke University, currently commands approximately 120 Soldiers and civilians tasked with recruiting officers for AMEDD’s Medical, Nurse, Dental, Veterinarian and Medical Service Corps as well as Army chaplains throughout the Southeast United States.
