TRZEBIEŃ, Poland – Soldiers from Bravo Company. 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division shared tactics and techniques with their counterparts from the Polish Army here on Mar. 18th.

The combat engineer training consisted of a multitude of tasks including obstacle emplacement, obstacle removal, demolition, and reconnaissance.

“Whenever the Polish go out we have a team or platoon go out with them.” said Pfc. Jordan Gravitt a Combat Engineer, B. Co., 1st Eng. Bat. 1 ABCT, 1st Inf. Div. “Pretty much whatever they are doing we are doing it too.”

The units are training together now so that they can operate as one force during multinational exercises planned for later in the year, and they are ready to respond to a potential crisis.

“We helped the Polish dig some fighting positions and then had lunch together,” said Gravitt. “We did a bridge reconnaissance; got some measurements to set demolition charges and hopefully blow the bridge.”

American and Polish Soldiers enjoyed the chance to see how different engineer tasks were accomplished by one another.

“We are working on making a minefield with the Polish, we are learning their procedures and methods.” said Spc. Kyle Pollard a Combat Engineer, B. Co., 1st Eng. Bat, 1st ABCT, 1st Inf. Div. “In the future we will work well together; we will be able to work our two strategies side by side or even help make things easier as we assist each other.”

The training time also affords the Soldiers on both sides the opportunity to interact and appreciate the longstanding alliance between Poland and the United States.

“I was in Afghanistan and cooperated with the U.S. Soldiers three times and it was a great experience. New Polish soldiers cannot go to Afghanistan and are looking forward to working with U.S. Soldiers here in Poland,” said Pfc. Przemyslaw Trzos, 1st Engineering Regiment - Brzeg, Poland. “It will be great when exercises are more together. I would like to see it grow and become something more than what we have now.”
