MIHAIL KOLGINACEANU AIR BASE, Romania – Soldiers with Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division from Fort Riley, Kansas work diligently on command maintenance to keep their M1 Abrams Tanks in top condition.

Soldiers with Charlie Company are focusing on their tank maintenance with gunnery tables and range live-fire right around the corner.

“Being able to maintain the readiness of our tanks, and of our crews and capabilities is very important,” said Staff Sgt. Tylor Hull, a Tank Crewmember assigned to Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment. “The guys take pride in our equipment and our mission. The numbers showing our fully-mission-capable levels give evidence to that.”

Pvt. Brian Thomas, a tank crew member assigned to Charlie Company, 1-16 Infantry was alongside fellow members of his crew focusing on preventative maintenance checks and inspections as well as an inventory layout next to their tank.

“Maintenance is everything,” stated Thomas. “If we miss something, it can create greater issues down the line, so we remain focused and work hard to stay on top of it.”

The Charlie Company command team was in the motor pool conversing with Soldiers and evaluating the progress of the day’s maintenance and inventory activities.

“Having a dedicated day, every week, ensures that we can bring full combat power to the fight,” said Charlie Company Commander, Cpt. Jared Schoneboom. “Readiness and excellence in maintenance has a direct correlation to our level of lethality.”

With Charlie Company slated to begin gunnery tables, maintenance will continue to be a priority in assurance of the unit’s operational capabilities as part of Atlantic Resolve mission, and as a contributor to the continued strength of Europe.
