Airmen from the 48th Logistics Readiness Squadron were the first in the Air Force to use the new Isometric R-11 refueling truck operationally since Aug. 13, 2018.

The vehicles improve the safety capabilities of the 48th LRS with advanced safety features and up-to-date hardware. The refueler is equipped with pressure sensors for throttle control, proximity sensors that drastically reduce the chance of collision in tight quarters and a narrower frame which makes it easier to transport.

“This truck helps eliminate potential human errors during the refueling process,” said Staff Sgt. Stuart Deering, 48th LRS Fuels Mobile Distribution non-commissioned officer in-charge. “It has increased safety measures to ensure we can accomplish our mission safely and effectively. Overall, this model is also much easier to use.”

More than a decade went into developing the new refueler, from concept to employment. The Isometric R-11 combines the capabilities of older versions, giving it a diverse skill set and is more cost effective than its predecessor.

“It’s a huge improvement with everything being electronic; fuel flow rate meter, pump and nozzle pressure gauges,” said Airman 1st Class Nicholas Kissell, 48th LRS Fuels Distribution operator. “It’s important that our equipment is up-to-date and ready for use during contingency operations.”

The Isometric R-11’s wide array of skills enhances the units ability to support the 492nd, 493rd and 494th Fighter Squadrons, ensuring the wing’s fleet of aircraft are combat-ready.
