Hometown: New York, N.Y.
Military Occupational Specialty: Cryptologic Linguist (MOS 35P)
Duty position: Cyber Protection Team 173, New Jersey Army National Guard
QUICK SKETCH:
-- Recently completed a yearlong assignment with Task Force Echo, 780th Military Intelligence Brigade (Cyber), Fort George G. Meade, Md.
-- Has a degree in National Security Policy from the State University of New York
ON HOW HIS TEAM SUPPORTED TASK FORCE ECHO:
“The section played a critical role in assessing information and providing support to analysts and leaders at all levels. ... Additionally, we were able to build on the efforts of the previous task force, ultimately improving our capability, thus becoming a valuable asset to the mission. All in all, however, my team’s success is due in part to the success of the other teams. One team, one fight.”
ON LESSONS HE WILL TAKE HOME FOLLOWING HIS YEAR WITH TASK FORCE ECHO:
“Members of the task force received valuable training that continued to build on their already extensive knowledge of the cyber domain. The experience gained from this mission will follow us as we progress in our civilian careers, many which still involve cybersecurity in the public sector. Finally, though we’re returning to our home states, I’m hopeful that we’ll stay in contact with one another. Not only did we create personal relationships during our short time on mission, we now have an impressive network of cyber professionals to utilize throughout our careers.”
ON HIS FONDEST MEMORIES OF SERVING AT FORT MEADE:
“Task Force Echo has exposed me to the world of cyberspace, the importance of cybersecurity and the meaning of cyber defense as it relates to national security. I completed an undergraduate degree in National Security Policy and was able to emphasize the importance of cyber defense in my academics. This unique experience has allowed me to address policy through unique lenses. To those great leaders who served as mentors to their peers and subordinates, we’re forever in your debt.”
ON WHY HE JOINED THE NATIONAL GUARD:
“I joined the Army National Guard (ARNG) as a way to serve my country while simultaneously taking strides to progress in my civilian career. Those with an interest in cybersecurity, or already working in the industry, and are seeking to join the ARNG will find that there are countless ways to succeed. Considering cyber’s growing role in national security, those seeking to join the ARNG can contribute to our defense in cyberspace. I only see a win-win scenario.”
