USS McFaul Holds Change of Command Ceremony
By Mass Communication Specialist 3rd Class Will Hardy
BAHRAIN – The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS McFaul (DDG 74) held a change of command ceremony at Naval Support Activity Bahrain, April 1.
Cmdr. Janet Days turned over command to Cmdr. Rusty Williamson. Days assumed command of McFaul in November 2017 and successfully led the destroyer through basic phase, a Black Dart exercise, Composite Training Unit Exercise (COMPTUEX), theater antisubmarine warfare exercises, continuous maintenance availabilities (CMAV)s, and onto deployment.
The ship’s crew and Commodore Adan Cruz, Commander of Destroyer Squadron 50 and U.S. 5th Fleet’s Task Force 55, were in attendance to celebrate one of the most honored traditions of the U.S. Navy.
“I look forward to hearing great things from McFaul under Rusty [Williamson],” said Days. “I’m also excited for the crew as they get to experience a change of command mid-deployment and any challenges that lie ahead.”
McFaul is on deployment in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operations, and Williamson is excited to embrace all challenges that may lie ahead.
“We are committed to our duty as the caretakers of McFaul and our crew,” said Williamson. “To continue to be successful, we are going to need to strive for excellence for every Sailor, every action, every task, every day.”
McFaul is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
