COLUMBIA, S.C.— U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Van McCarty, the Adjutant General for South Carolina, announced the next deputy adjutant general for the South Carolina Military Department, April 2, 2019.
U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Jones, a current resident of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, will assume the role effective April 17, 2019. He will be leaving the role of the assistant adjutant general-Army.
“Brigadier General Jeff Jones is an exceptional and proven leader in both the South Carolina National Guard, as well as in the community, and I am proud to announce him as the next deputy adjutant general for the South Carolina Military Department,” said McCarty.
Jones is a 1987 graduate of The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. He previously served as the commander for the 218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade in Charleston and commanded the lead element for the coastal response of the South Carolina National Guard to the historic flooding in 2015, as well as Hurricane Matthew in 2016. He deployed as a battalion operations officer in 2004 with the 1-178th Field Artillery Battalion in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, as well as to Kosovo as the deputy commander for the Multi-National Battle Group-East, 2012-2013.
“I look forward to him being a part of the leadership team for this organization as we continue to build readiness and take care of the employees, Soldiers, and Airmen of the South Carolina Military Department,” said McCarty.
