MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Deployment Processing Command / Reserve Support Unit-East celebrated its 70th anniversary on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, April 8.
During the ceremony, Col. Michael Corrado, commanding officer, DPC/RSU-East recognized the group’s 70th anniversary and rededicated its battle colors, commending past achievements while looking forward to future accomplishments.
“Every once in a while we have to stop and take a look at our history,” Corrado said. “You aren’t going to hear about us in the headlines; that’s not our role, but our job is crucial in making sure that the Marines that come through here are ready to train.”
DPC/RSU-East, which was created April 4, 1949, is responsible for providing support to non-mobilized reserve components’ unit training, conducting individual augment deployment/re-deployment processing and supporting activated reserve units/dets while aboard MCB Camp Lejeune in order to support total force integration during mobilization.
“Whether it’s combat operations, counter narcotics or crisis response, the reserve component plays a vital role in promoting readiness,” Corrado said.
The DPC/RSU-East fulfills its Marine Corps Total Force obligation by executing three lines of operation. They process active and reserve component Marines, Navy reservists and Department of Defense civilians and contractors for deployment. Secondly, they support the transfer of Marine Corps Reserve units from Marine Forces Reserve to Marine Forces Command upon activation when Camp Lejeune is designated as the Intermediate Location. Lastly, they support non-mobilized reserve component unit training on Camp Lejeune.
With a formation and color guard, service members and guests took time to recognize the DPC/RSU-East legacy and its current contribution to the Marine Corps.
Over the years, the group has received the Meritorious Unit Commendation streamer with three bronze stars, national defense service streamer with three bronze stars and the global war on terrorism service streamer.
