WEST POINT N.Y. - The Sandhurst competition is the world’s premier international academy military skills competition that inspires excellence through rigorous physical and mental challenges that reflect the tempo, uncertainty and tasks of combat operations. This competition not only strengthens mental and physical readiness, it also strengthens relationships with our allies and partners to foster multi-national cohesion and interoperability.

With 14 international teams competing this year, the competition is strong, but these teams are also revealing their appreciation of participating in Sandhurst.

“It’s a great opportunity to represent our country, it’s great that they picked us, we are really proud, we want to make our country proud and we are going to give our best,” said Cadet Bendix Nebe from Germany. “I think it’s really great working with other countries, it’s great to talk to them and compare equipment, tactics, and just get to know each other and get connections going for the future."

Many international teams having competed in the Sandhurst competition are aware of the challenges that are faced ahead but for a couple of teams competing this year, its all new. Greece and Denmark are the new international competitors at Sandhurst and have really displayed positivity about the event.

“We are looking forward to competing in the Sandhurst Competition, it’s our first time and we are very excited” said Chief First Sergeant Four Year Cadet Choupis Anastacios from the Hellenic Army Academy in Athens, Greece, “We’ve seen a lot of other armies, other countries and that means a lot to us. We will take other people’s experience and use it to become better in the future.”

Although all teams competing are aiming to win, the camaraderie and partnerships that are formed by all countries will ultimately keep these teams united.

“We are going to take back a lot of experience, a lot of friends and a good squad,” said Anastacios about his thoughts on returning home from the competition.

The Sandhurst competition is hosted by the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and will take place on April 12 and 13.
