San Diego -- In a traditional observance in front of a gathering of Sailors and civilian staff, Training Support Center (TSC) San Diego held a change of command and retirement ceremony, April 5.

Capt. Douglas Patterson relieved Capt. Michael Feyedelem as commanding officer of TSC San Diego. Feyedelem, a native of Norwalk, Ohio, will retire from a distinguished 30-year naval career.

Vice Adm. Robert Burke, Chief of Naval Personnel, was the guest speaker for the ceremony and praised Feyedelem for his contributions to improve the readiness of Sailors in the fleet.

"Capt. Feyedelem’s leadership and dedication to mission is nothing new, and is something that I know the team here has benefitted from during his command tour,” said Burke. "Over the course of his time here, over 135,000 Sailors were afforded student support while attending approximately 6,900 course convenes. The level of coordination, organization, and communication that it takes to keep a machine like this well-oiled and humming is truly remarkable.”

During the ceremony, Feyedelem thanked the staff for their hard work and dedication to ensure Sailors were ready to meet the Navy's mission.

“To the team – it has been my honor to serve with you the last two years,” said Feyedelem. “I can think of no better way to have finished my career than to work with all of you. Your professionalism and commitment to our Navy is truly commendable. I wish you all the absolute best in your future endeavors.”

Retired Rear Adm. Ann Phillips gave remarks during the retirement portion of the ceremony that focused on Feyedelem’s family and their support during his 30-year career.

Feyedelem thanked those whom he served with during his career and gave special thanks to his family, “I could not have done this without your support.”

Patterson reports to TSC San Diego from Engineering Assessments Pacific.

Patterson bade farewell and following seas to Feyedelem and looks forward to filling his new role as commanding officer, TSC San Diego.

“To the Training Support Center staff – I have been nothing but impressed with your professionalism and dedication to our fleet readiness responsibilities,” said Patterson. “I look forward to working with all of you in this dynamic transformational period for Naval Education and Training Command.”
