The Fort Bliss community welcomed Echo Company, 1-501st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion during an activation ceremony April 4 at the Hueco Camp Trail, Fort Bliss.

Lt. Col. Nate J. Patton, Rear Detachment Commander, 1st Armored Division Combat Aviation Brigade, described the unit as the ‘latest breaking company’ that the Army has established. He explained that when the unit is completely trained and fielded the “executioners” of E Company will provide unique capabilities in intelligence, and surveillance serving as an enhancement for the division’s mission.

“They will take the fight to the end,” said Patton “Over the next few months, this team will work to enhance their skills and hone their craft. We have great expectations and confidence for this unit’s success and they will definitely have the support from the team around them.”

Patton then introduced the new command team: Capt. James L. Strunck and 1st Sgt. William D. Romanoff stressing his confidence on their abilities to lead the new company.

Romanoff thanked Fort Bliss for their support and said he was looking forward to assisting Joint Task Force-North. He said the unit’s focus will be charged with signal disruption and signal interception. The unit will also serve as the only unmanned aviation unit platform for the division.

“We have a lot to look forward to in order to step up to greatness, but with the team here we are more than ready for the new missions ahead.”

As the incoming commander, Strunck added that he is ready for the triumphs as well as the challenges that go with establishing a new unit.

We will soon become the most capable unmanned aviation unit,” said the Kentucky native. “We are ready to get our unit stood up and leave a legacy behind.”
