BESMAYA, Iraq — Iraqi Security Force soldiers have completed several train-the-trainer courses on April 2, 2019, at the Task Force Besmaya Range Complex, Iraq.

Task Force Besmaya instructors led the train-the-trainer courses for the Iraqi soldiers to increase the ISF’s capability to impart similar courses and knowledge upon their ISF students.

“The train-the-trainer courses will assist in making the future training efforts the Iraqis do more sustainable. It will also create instructors and training capabilities the Iraq Ministry of Defense can believe in,” said Captain Fernando Bretones, Spanish Operations Commander. “Our continued ISF training efforts, to include train-the-trainer courses, has been thriving and will continue to thrive in developing the professional military development of the ISF and increase the Government of Iraq’s ability to secure and enable the safety of their people.”

On April 2, 20 future ISF instructors completed a marksman course in which students learned various shooting techniques to improve their accuracy and proficiency through medium and long-range shooting.

Additionally on April 2, 20 ISF soldiers attended a 15-day urban combat course. During the course, students learned how to traverse urban combat situations, and to overcome multiple tactical issues, in order to combat terrorism while operating in villages or inside buildings.

Finally on April 2, 23 future ISF trainers completed a subterranean combat course. The students performed refresher training on basic concepts of subterranean warfare to increase their abilities to combat terrorism in subterranean environments.

Training ISF soldiers is a multi-national effort and thus far Coalition nations have provided the GoI and ISF approximately $3.5 billion in equipment and material, and have trained more than 200,000 Iraqi soldiers ranging from the Iraqi Army to Iraqi Border Guard forces.

The Coalition’s support and mentor efforts are adaptive and fully coordinated with the ISF and the GoI. The Coalition will continue to operate in close coordination with the GoI as we work together to ensure the enduring defeat Daesh in designated areas of Iraq and set conditions for follow-on operations to increase regional stability.
