Public invited to Fort Douglas for U.S. Army Reserve Open House

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, UNITED STATES

    04.13.2019

    Story by Sgt. Kayla Benson

    96th Sustainment Brigade

An open house-style career fair is scheduled April 27, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fort Douglas Reserve Center parade field in Salt Lake City. Members of the public interested in joining the U.S. Army Reserve, or simply looking for information, are invited to speak with representatives from various units stationed at the Reserve center.

Most of the attending units fall under the 96th Sustainment Brigade, whose primary mission is military logistics- the planning and executing of movement and maintenance of military forces. Career paths in the 96th SB include medical, supply and distribution, finance, human resource, postal operations, transportation, truck driving, fuel and chemical operations, military intelligence, strategies and planning, signal and communication, legal, among other support career paths and specialties available through the U.S. Army Reserve.

The units of the 96th SB will have static displays for visitors to explore, including military vehicles-a truck, wrecker and Humvee; weapons; mock living quarters set up in a tent; notional post office and finance counter.

U.S. Army recruiters will be available to provide information on qualifications to enlist, benefits available, current incentives, bonuses and college scholarships. During the event, local future soldiers, or individuals already planning to join, will participate in an Army physical fitness test at 9:15 a.m., followed by military warrior drills throughout the day, and a group enlistment ceremony at 1:30 p.m.

Local media is invited all day. No prior coordination through the 96th SB is necessary. For parking, enter through the main gate off of Mario Capecchi Drive, turn left after the Post Exchange, and right into the lot. Overflow parking is located at the Post Exchange and in the lot west of it. The parade field is located in the center of the buildings along Soldier Circle.

If you have any questions or need assistance before or during the event, please email Sgt. Kayla F. Benson, 96th Sustainment Brigade public affairs sergeant, at kayla.f.benson.mil@mail.mil. A media hub will be available for use on the parade field across from Building 106. Public domain photographs of the unit from previous missions are available at www.dvidshub.net/unit/96SB.
