FORT HOOD, Texas—The 7215th Medical Support Unit assumed Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center’s mission to provide deployment medicine services at the Soldier Readiness Processing Center during a transfer of authority ceremony here April 12.
Lt. Col. Milton Fowler, Jr., commander of the 7215th MSU from St. Louis, Missouri, assumed responsibility for the CRDAMC mission from Lt. Col. Nicollette Dennis, commander of the 7244th MSU, who will take the unit back to its home station in Mount Carmel, Tennessee.
MSUs are Army Reserve units mobilized for a year to conduct CRDAMC’s deployment/redeployment medical services. The unit provides a variety of screening processes such as periodic health assessments, immunizations, lab services, health reviews and behavioral health services to ensure thousands of deploying and redeploying personnel are physically and mentally fit.
Col. David Gibson, CRDAMC’s commander, praised the Soldiers from the 7244th for their efforts over the past year in successfully screening, processing and clearing almost 60,000 active duty, National Guard, Army Reserve and civilian personnel for world-wide deployment missions.
“These Soldiers worked long days, many nights and weekends to professionally address the medical needs and records of the deployers and re-deployers through one of the Army's largest and busiest power projection platforms,” Gibson said. “For some, the fruits of these labors may not manifest until years later—but the high, quality and safe care provided by this team was instrumental in this mission.
“After presenting awards to the 7244th Soldiers earlier, I asked them not to think about the specific tasks they performed while they were here, but rather consider the immeasurable impact they have made in support of the Army executing our nation's national security interests around the globe. When you think about what they enabled, what they were a part of, it's quite daunting,” he said.
Gibson welcomed Fowler and the 7215th Soldiers to continue to raise the bar.
“Your attitudes will determine your altitudes and I want you to make the best of this tour. You have brought all the right talent and we are excited to have your team on board,” Gibson said. “I ask that you proudly educate those you support, our partners across the installation, those you work with and those you encounter in our communities on the profession of arms and what it means to live the Army values. Your service and how you serve--your professionalism--will be inspiring.”
