Educators from organizations throughout Ohio came to visit the 179th Airlift Wing and learn more about the Ohio National Guard through a base tour April 23, 2019, at the 179th Airlift Wing, Mansfield, Ohio.
“Its great getting us teachers out here and letting us see what the military does,” said Ashley Twedt, a teacher at Bellville Elementary School, Bellville, Ohio. “There are so many opportunities out here, it’s not just deployments and war like everyone thinks. It’s great to teach us all that the Guard has to offer so that we can pass on that message.”
The educators, made up of teachers, principals and counselors from Ohio schools, participated in a tour of a C-130H Hercules, as well as interactive displays of vehicles, weapons and proper firefighter and tactical uniform wear with the Army National Guard.
“It is an awesome opportunity anytime we get to have community members come out and connect with the Wing,” said Master Sgt. Michael Schaefer, Supervisor of the 179th Recruiting Office. “A lot of people don’t know about the Air National Guard, so it’s great to show them all that we have to offer. Especially when it is a group like this one, we can show these educators how their students can benefit from the Guard.”
