Vice President Mike Pence visited Sailors aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) April 30 while pierside in Norfolk.
While aboard, the vice president met with Commander, U.S. 2nd Fleet, Vice Adm. Andrew Lewis, and Harry S. Truman leaders to discuss the ship’s dynamic force deployment in 2018.
“This ship has served as a constant sign to the world that we will always ensure our security,” said Pence. “We will always stand for peace through strength. During each deployment in its prolific career, USS Truman has taken the fight to the enemy on our terms, on their soil.”
Pence toured the ship and held an all-hands call for more than 2,000 Truman Sailors, highlighting ship’s contributions to the fight against ISIS, to NATO exercises, and participation in High North operations on its previous deployment.
“I think it's amazing that he came to visit us,” said Aerographer’s Mate 2nd Class Jessica Geldmaker. “It's nice to hear appreciation from so high up the ladder.”
Harry S. Truman is currently moored at Naval Station Norfolk, conducting targeted maintenance and training, and remains operationally ready. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/USSTruman or www.navy.mil/local/cvn75/.
